Cyber Security in Charities

Cyber Security in Charities – Why charity needs to start at home

Anyone who is not yet aware of ransomware and other cyber-attacks must enjoy the isolation of the desert for their self-containing living existence.  The rest of us simply have to constantly check the domain addresses of spam emails and safeguard our passwords on a daily basis. Cyber Security is very important.

For large organisations and businesses, the threat of Cyber Attacks and Hacks is an annual concern that is commonly addressed by a security technology partner like Academia who helps to secure the issues that computer based firms regularly face. But there is an industry that needs to focus more on its cyber security issues thanks to the massive amount of data it holds.   Charities, you have been warned….

A recent government paper on the subject of Cyber Security in Charities was published and met with major concerns from many in the charity sector. From the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP conducted research with UK registered charities that explored awareness, attitudes and experience around Cyber Security.  The full report finding can be downloaded and reviewed here:

Whilst many are prepared, warnings remain for those who still have not adapted to change and persist to use outdated equipment and data storage.

Thankfully, the Academia for Charity team is on hand to help….
