09 Oct Women in Tech – The Academia Ladies making a difference in Technology

Times, they are a changing. Technology has evolved in the same way that gender equality has come to the forefront of any business mind. The only main difference is that Technology is developing a lot quicker than people’s perceptions.
At the Academia Group, the holding company for Tech brands like Academia, ATAMA, ReviveIT and Student Superstore, the message has and always will be clear; if a person is good enough, they are right for a role they are hired to perform. This is abundantly clear with a quick look around the Academia HQ with over 25% of female staff performing Technology roles that have historically been very male dominated.
The surge in top female talent entering the tech sector has meant a big change in the way that the Academia Group approaches problem solving tasks with more detailed forward thinking that is helping our clients get the best out of our customer support services.
3 talented ladies from Academia that have shined brightest in the past year have been each rewarded with a nomination in the newly created Women in Channel awards from the CRN. The awards, created to help recognise the achievements of the entrepreneurs, leaders and exceptional employees who can act as role models for young females considering a career in this fast-paced, dynamic industry, take place on the 18th October. Our nominees are:
Lauren Larter
Lauren is nominated in the Sales Women of the year award thanks to her exhaustive efforts in delivering top grade Technology solutions to hundreds of education clients in 2018. Having been with the Academia Group for 4 years, Lauren joined the family after researching the best ranked Tech companies via Tech Track and Deloitte in 2014, with Academia riding high on all charts.
Originally joining an all males sales team, Lauren was able to hold her own and repeatedly hit and exceed targets whilst fully supporting the core Academia values. Her success has brought 3 promotions in the 4 years, catapulting Lauren to senior account manager status in a very short time.
Aware that Academia has a very open internal recruitment policy and all opportunities are open to all applicants, Lauren sees a need to encourage more women into the tech industry, personally stating that this needs to happen at school level, where she would love to go out and share her experiences as she certainly didn’t leave school expecting to end up working in the Tech Industry!
Patrycja Marjanska
Patrycja, or Pat as she is known to colleagues and friends, joined the Academia family 18 months ago and has been nominated in the Rising Star award at the Women in Channel event.
Attracted by the opportunity that Academia offered to progress a career in Technology support, Pat has seen her dramatic rise in the company receive recommendation with this nomination thanks to her willingness to help all colleagues as well as going above and beyond in order to make things happen for all clients in tech support.
Pat can definitely see women opening up to working within IT and becoming vitals assets to the company and industry in the future. She is hoping that she can implement positive changes that increase success and ensure Academia is happy as well as the customers that rely on our services.
Carys Doran
Carys has been part of the Academia Family for over 5 years now, having risen from a customer support role to a fully-fledged team manager in that time. Her nomination for Manager of the Year is high praise for someone who has continually got the best out of male and female staff.
Attracted to Academia by working with some of the biggest Tech companies in the world, Carys’s programmatic and supportive approach to management has seen her talents recognised at all levels of the Group and was no surprise when her CRN nomination came through.
A keen advocate of supporting all staff, Carys is delighted to share her story and experiences with the next generation of women in Tech as she is a firm believer of giving anyone and everyone a chance to prove themselves in a busy industry.
Along with their fellow nominees, we would like to wish them all the best of luck on the night and hope they have a fantastic time no matter the outcome – it is, after all, richly deserved.
